Our Production Site in Dessau: Excellence in Aseptic Manufacturing
For over 25 years, the medac production site in Dessau has been a reliable partner in the aseptic manufacturing of drugs. Located near Dessau-Roßlau in central Germany – just 90 km from Berlin and 60 km from Leipzig – the site is easily accessible by road, rail and air.

From Development to Commercial Production
What sets our site apart is its fully integrated service offering: from formulation and development to market launch and commercial production, we cover the entire pharmaceutical value chain. This makes us a trusted partner for long-term collaborations and tailored contract manufacturing.
Shaping Success – Step by Step
The site was established in 1997, and just two years later, the first isolator-based vial filling line went into operation. In 2001, syringe production was launched, followed by the introduction of originator products in 2007. Ongoing investments enabled the site to meet the regulatory requirements of key markets such as the United States. Since 2012, the site has been regularly inspected by international authorities.
To meet the growing demand for pre-filled syringes, a high-capacity production line was developed in cooperation with Bosch. In 2014, the line received FDA approval.
Expanding Capabilities for the Future
In 2016, a 630 m² production area was added for manual, semi-automated and fully automated visual inspection of vials and syringes. This expansion marked the next step in strengthening quality assurance and vertical integration at the site.
With its general manufacturing authorisation according to §13 AMG (German Medicines Act), medac Dessau produces sterile liquid and solid dosage forms – including injection solutions in vials and pre-filled syringes.
Ongoing investments in infrastructure and talent have laid a solid foundation for continued success. The site is well positioned to respond to changing market needs with agility and precision.
Ready for What’s Next
Looking ahead, medac Dessau continues to invest in the future. A centralised competence centre for the visual inspection of injectables is under development, integrating all inspection processes into one unified system.
The site is already engaged in the production of next-generation drug products, including antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). These strategic developments ensure that medac Dessau remains at the forefront of innovation – ready to meet evolving customer needs and regulatory expectations.
